Thinking is a knowledge development activity: through thinking, one engages in activities of knowledge development. In its initial phases, thinking activities start with (1) perception, followed by (2) analytic, and (3) synthetic thinking (Allison, 2018). Through the initial phases of thinking, one merely represents an object spontaneously. A person moves from the initial phases of spontaneous thinking to other phases where thinking is deliberate. With deliberate thinking, a person enters advanced phases of thinking, and thinking is either personal (private) or public (shared). In deliberate thinking, a person does not think or represent objects as one does during spontaneous thinking; instead, a person models activities of the initial phases of thinking. In this course, you will learn about the activities of the initial phases of thinking, what a person does when a person thinks spontaneously or models the initial phases of thinking activities; how a person models activities of the initial phases of thinking.
