Monograph #5 – Thinking, Interest and Lessons

In knowledge development activities, a person does not think randomly; one starts, first, by engaging the initial phases of thinking activities even without a teacher’s guidance (Dewey, 1934 and Allison 2018). Students are self-guided to think in phases and conserve efforts; thus, a student is said to express an interest. Dewey (1934) further explained that to clarify an object and achieve progress, a student must think deliberately, striving to engage and maximize efforts in various phases of thinking. Thus, while the initial phases of thinking activities help to represent objects, the phases of thinking that help to clarify objects may be private or public. In this course/monograph, participants will learn about phases of thinking and how they relate to interests and lessons.
